Northern Spy Apple

Description

Believed to be named after an 1821 novel by James Fenimore Cooper, Northern Spy is a beloved American heirloom prized for its flavor and versatility. Fruits are very tender, crisp, juicy, slightly sweet and mildly acidic; the flavor profile and eating quality shines in pies, sauces, cider and fresh off the tree. A late season variety, the greenish-yellow fruit stores well for up to 2 months and often improves in flavor after harvest. The vigorous, long-lived trees are winter hardy—great for growers in colder climates. For best yields, plant Northern Spy with a pollinator. Requires 800-1000 chill hours. Zones 4-9.
