Description
Agave obscura is a compact, solitary agave from the highlands of east-central Mexico, in the states of Veracruz and Puebla. The epithet obscura (dark) refers to its narrow, deep green leaves, which form a dense, symmetrical rosette edged with small reddish-brown teeth and tipped by a slender terminal spine. These seeds come from the Xalapa population in Veracruza wild provenance (locality), not a cultivarso plants raised from them reflect the form typical of that area.
Grown from seed, Agave obscura develops slowly into an architectural, drought-tolerant succulent well suited to containers, rockeries and xeriscape plantings. Coming from a cooler, mid-elevation habitat, it is hardier than many lowland agaves and rewards patient growers with a tidy, sculptural rosette.
- Narrow, dark green leaves in a dense, symmetrical rosette
- Margins with small reddish-brown teeth and a terminal spine
- Compact, solitary habitideal for pots
- Seed provenance: Xalapa, Veracruz (Mexico)
- Drought-tolerant and relatively cold-hardy for an agave
A rewarding choice for collectors who enjoy growing true, locality-documented species from seed. Sow in a free-draining, gritty mix, keep warm and bright, and let the surface dry between waterings.
IMPORTANT: Pictures show the adult plant, which is not for sale. The offer is only for seeds.
